Boho Maxi Dress

In the last two weeks, I’ve been on of those bloggers who can talk about crafting during nap time. When Emily sleeps during the day, I workout, shower, clean, do laundry, and sew. I’ve really been trying to include sewing during at least one nap, because it makes me feel like I have something to show for what I’m spending my time doing (I’m the only one who notices that the floors are swept!). Besides, I have a long list of things that I want to make for both Emily and myself!

But this post isn’t about my napping schedule…

And yet, quick and easy are the key to making it to my sewing list. So when I found this tutorial from Sweet Verbena for a maxi dress, I was thrilled. I’ve always loved the idea of a maxi dress, but had never gotten one.

This one definitely fit the bill for quick and easy. Especially since I found knit in a color I liked, which eliminated the dying step.

I hate having pictures of myself taken! Ugh, look at the awkward face. At least the dress is cute!

I followed the tutorial pretty carefully, but there were a few changes I made:
*I used a thicker fabric because that’s the only weight the color I liked came in. Not a good change.
*Because of change 1, I took some of the bulk out of the waist. The thicker fabric gave me more hips than I really needed. I just used a shirt I like the fit of and followed it’s general line.
*I hemmed the neck and arm holes. I just liked the finished look of it.
*I did a 7″ cut for the neckline. Still pretty modest.
*I washed my fabric before I started this project, so I didn’t have the shrinking problem Katy did. I just put a 1 1/2″ hem at the bottom.
